As some of you may have noticed the forum has been offline during the weekend. This was due to a number of our visitors reporting trouble with malware/viruses while visiting the forum. As a precaution, I have taken the forum temporarily offline.
We (that is, me, the hosting provider, and also some helpful people on the development team of the forum software) have investigated any possible infections in the forum software or the server on which it runs and have sofar come up with nothing. I therefore believe that for now it is safe to put the forum back online again, and it should be safe for you, the visitor, to browse this forum.
We are, however, continuing to monitor the situation, and if we do find anything suspect, we will of course deal with it in an appropriate way.
So, what should you do if you get a virus warning while visiting the My Dying Bride forum?
First of all: do
not believe any popups that say a virus is detected if that popup is not recognizably from your own virus scanner software. It may be a fake antivirus popup, clicking anywhere on it (even clicking the 'cancel' button!) may lead to malware getting installed on your computer. If you get such a popup, the best thing to do is immediately close your browser, and empty the browser cache.
Also, to doublecheck that no malware has been installed on your system, don't just trust your 'regular' antivirus tool, because some malware may not be detected by it. In addition to your antivirus, use a good malware detection tool (like
Hitman Pro or
MalwareBytes) and do a complete scan of your system.
Last but not least: if you get a virus warning of any sort, I'd like to hear about it. Please send me a PM or an e-mail (webmaster at mydyingbride dot org) with the time of the warning, and what exactly the warning was (what it says, which antivirus you use, which link you clicked when it happened, etc.). If at all possible send me a screenshot that shows your browser and/or the virus warning. Please do not post your virus warnings on the forum anymore, but send them to me directly.
